Welcome to My Fantasy World

I have a recurring fantasy.

It’s not one of those win the lottery, travel slowly around the world and become a benevolent philanthropist fantasies, although that would be nice.

Instead, it’s a fantasy about what our world would be like with one small change.

Just imagine

What if every single person on the planet had healthy self-esteem?

This thought originated way back in Junior High, when I first learned of the concept of self-esteem. Probably in one of those health classes where we had to carry an egg around without breaking it to learn parenting skills.

I remember that when I learned about this concept of self-esteem, I began immediately to wonder what the world would be like if every single person had healthy self-esteem. (Incidentally, I’m sure there are lots of different names or ways of describing the concept, but I continue to think of this with that particular term because it’s the one that birthed this idea.)

The more I thought about it, the more fascinating it became, because I quickly came to the conclusion that if everyone had healthy self-esteem the world would be perfect. It would be a beautiful, happy safe place for everyone to live and thrive.

Is it really so far-fetched?

Yes, I know, it seems a little far-fetched on the surface, but dig into it a little bit. What if all the world leaders had healthy self-esteem? There would be no need for anyone to have power over anyone else. There would be no wars.

There wouldn’t be this constant drive for bigger better faster stronger. Healthy self-esteem goes hand-in-hand with sustainable living. With healthy self-esteem, there’s no drive to want more than you need.

There would be no need for prisons, because crime wouldn’t exist.

There would be contentment. A sense of enoughness. A caring that would start with the self and go through everyone and everything, even those we don’t yet understand.

If everyone had healthy self-esteem, the earth, the land, plants, oceans, and all it’s inhabitants would ebb and flow in natural cycles. There wouldn’t be needless destruction and excess waste.

All that from each person having healthy self-esteem.

What do you think?
