A look back at some of the best, hardest and most surprising parts of my week.
The Good
Book clubs. Yes, plural. I’m such a badass, I now belong to two book clubs. And, while we do fit the stereotype of being all women and consuming a fair amount of wine and chocolate at our get togethers, we also actually discuss the books, pretty thoroughly.
I’m a voracious reader (it’s number 4), and it’s even more fun to have people to talk with about books I’ve read.
Sunshine. I spent the weekend in Los Angeles, and it did not disappoint.
It’s easy to get a touch of SAD here in Portland during the winter, and there’s nothing like a good weekend in the sunshine to help you make it through.
My feet were thrilled to be in flip-flops and out of wool socks for the first time in months. I went for a run in Runyon Canyon. I didn’t even bring a jacket with me.
The Bad
Indecision. There are a couple of things I’m feeling the need to make a decision about, but I can’t seem to commit one way or the other.
Usually, I recognize that maybe’s are really no’s with hedging. I also have my, usually super-effective decision making strategy. Or, my second favorite decision guiding philosophy. So, I’m reminding myself, that since none of these are working right now, that I just don’t have enough information. It’s best to let go of the need to make a decision NOW, and wait until I have enough information to make a clear choice.
The Rad
Ritual. This past weekend I attended a Bat Mitzvah for the first time. It was such a fascinating and joy-filled event. Seeing my college girlfriend’s daughter so poised and beautiful, sharing her Torah portion, what she learned from it, and her service project was amazing. Watching her proud family and friends warmed my heart. And being a witness to the whole ritual was so touching. There was something about it that was both personal and communal. It was clearly a combination of thousands of years of history, as well as a contemporary 13-year-old girl’s experience.
And you?
