A look back at some of the best, hardest and most surprising parts of my week.
The Good
Inbox Zero. Don’t be silly, I didn’t keep up with inbox zero while I was sick, but the fact that I’ve been doing it for the last couple of weeks has made it oh-so-much-easier to catch up. When I can see everything in my inbox, there are no cracks to fall through. I’ve been able to prioritize and respond to what must be done this week. And, I’m not too far from my sparkling clean end-of-the-day inbox. I’ll easily be back on track with it next week!
The Bad
Help. This year, I’ve been forced to get better at asking for, and accepting, help when offered. I’m still not that good at it though. I had a lot of opportunities in the last week and I just didn’t follow through on them. I’d like to feel more comfortable with this. I know I love it when my offers of help are accepted! I’d like to remember that when I’m on the other side.
The Rad
Writing Down Wants. About a year or two ago, I wrote a Home Wanted ad in the back of one of my notebooks. It was a love letter to the home of my future. I was ready to move out of the cramped urban neighborhood I’d lived in (and loved) for more than fifteen years. I wasn’t sure where I wanted to go, or how I was going to get there, but I wrote down in great detail the qualities I wanted my new home and neighborhood to have, and then I forgot about it.
I didn’t even remember writing out this page long description, but when I re-read it, I was floored. It describes my current home almost exactly. There’s maybe one or two things that don’t quite fit, but out of a whole page of description? Not bad!
One of my favorite lines: “The views out your windows delight and create a sense of wonder and awe.” Every evening I stand at my windows and look at the lights across the river, each morning I watch the river, out the back window I watch the birds. I just took this sunset picture from my office window. (No instagram filters either!)
Wonder and awe indeed.
And you?
