Good | Bad | Rad #14 – More treats than tricks

A look back at some of the best, hardest and most surprising parts of my week.

The Good

Halloween. Costumes! Candy! Parties! Friends! The most adorable kids parading around the neighborhood on Saturday trick-or-treating the local businesses! Oh, and let me tell you, a syringe sticking out of your chest gets in the way more often than you might expect.

The Bad

Superstorm Sandy. In my world, there wasn’t really anything that falls into this category this week (another item for the good category!). In other parts of the world, yikes. Since I was spending most of my time in the last week at a retreat and I don’t have a TV, I missed most of the coverage and visuals of the storm. I’ve seen enough online though, to know how devastating the storm has been. My family and friends in the hurricane’s path all came out relatively unscathed. I know so many were not that lucky. My heart goes out to everyone who has been affected.

The Rad

Connecting. But not with other people. With myself. Off and on through the years I’ve played with this idea of getting quiet and practicing stillness and resting. Really resting. I’ve even used rest as a reward. And at a retreat with my friend Havi this week, we did this as a way to begin, to finish, to transition, to process, when we weren’t sure what was the best thing to do next. And then we’d do it again.

While I’ve known everything is better when I take time to do it, it’s easy to forget. It’s easy to think, but I don’t have time to lay down on the floor (or sit on a cushion).

Except how it makes everything better.

Every time.

And you?
