Getting Ready for Adventure!

A week from today, I’ll be on a plane headed for Auckland, New Zealand. I’ll be traveling around the country for the month of March. No itinerary, no specific plans. We’re taking only backpacks that we can carry on the airplane, so I’m considering very carefully everything that I’m bringing. After all, I’ll be hauling it around on my back for a month and it has to get through security.

This morning I’m seeing exactly what I have and trying to figure out what I need. All my clothes for this trip are lightweight, quick drying and multi-purpose (you know, pretty much not attractive or fashionable just practical and comfortable). After I have it laid out, I’m going to do a test pack. I’m hoping to find balance between having what I want and being able to carry it around without killing myself.

I’m also going to see if I can book us a place for the first couple of nights in Auckland. It’s always nice to have a place to go when you arrive in a foreign country. Both of us have traveled like this in Europe, and having to pantomime your way through different languages adds another level of, ummm, let’s call it adventure. It’ll help that English is the primary language.

It’s starting to really hit me that we’re going. I’m in that nervous and excited phase where all there is is possibility. It’s a great place to be.
