Good | Bad | Rad #36 – Reclamation

A look back at some of the best, hardest and most surprising parts of my week.

The Good

St. Johns Bridge in my car mirror, by Shannon Wilkinson Portland, OregonLong trail run. I’m starting to get into longer weekly runs for my marathon training, and this past week I was able to disappear into the woods on a long run for a couple hours. I love that! I love that I can take off from my house and be in a forest in less than 15 minutes. I love that I could run in Forest Park for hours, and never run out of trails.

Jet lag. This is not a mistake, I do mean for it to be in the good category this week. I’ve been using it for good since I returned from the East Coast. Keeping with my EDT schedule, I’ve been able to go to bed earlier, which means more sleep! And you know how I love my sleep.

The Bad

Distance. I have a friend who’s dealing with some health challenges right now. She lives quite far from me. So it’s frustrating that I can’t just zip over to her place with a meal, some magazines, flowers. As small at the interwebz can make the world feel, physical distance still trumps at times like these.

The Rad

Reclamation. This past weekend I helped my friend, Christine Martell, at a studio sale of her art.

She’s an artist, so not really that big of a deal, right? Wrong.

While Christine has been making art, being an artist, for something like 30 years, she hasn’t had a show for her original work in 14 years. It was so awesome to be there as she reclaimed her public artist self. To be all of who she really is. I’ve seen a sneak peek of some of her newest work, and it is truly rad. I’m sure more exciting things are yet to come.

And you?
